Description

Although there are already some zoom lenses that cover 14mm, the F1.8 lens speed is a value never before achieved. The extreme angle of view and the close focusing distance of 27cm allow you to create close-ups with a present main subject in the foreground and an impressively expansive background. On the other hand, the extraordinary F1.8 light intensity enables a high-resolution main subject with the finest background bokeh.

Its angle of view and F1.8 speed are also the reason why this 14 mm lens is ideal for landscape and architectural photography as well as for taking pictures of the starry sky and other night sky scenes. The light intensity offers the necessary potential to capture as much light as possible at fast shutter speeds. This ability to capture moving subjects simply by adjusting the shutter speed rather than the ISO sensitivity reduces image noise caused by the camera sensor.

For this lens with Canon mount there is a rear filter holder FHR-11, which can be mounted on the rear end of the 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art with Canon mount.

The FHR-11 rear filter holder is an accessory kit designed exclusively for this lens. It allows the photographer to use a film filter on the lens. Mounting the filter on the back of the lens provides more creative freedom.

All information for customers who would like to mount the filter holder can be found here.

By utilising the extremely wide angle of view to create a dramatic image impression, an ultra-wide-angle lens allows you to get close to the subject while capturing a very large part of the background ? with this lens, the angle of view goes far beyond normal human vision.

The SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art combines a very large depth of field, due to the wide angle of view, with a very narrow depth of field, due to the lens speed of F1.8. The result is a sharp subject that stands out from the expansive background, which merges into a beautiful bokeh. It's a highly impressive form of photographic expression that simply didn't exist until now.

Minimised chromatic aberration

Three FLD glass elements ("F" Low Dispersion) and four SLD glass elements (Super Low Dispersion) minimise lateral chromatic aberration, which is otherwise often visible when shooting with ultra-wide-angle lenses. The result is outstanding image quality from the centre of the image to the edges.

Aspherical lens element with large diameter

The SIGMA 12-24mm F4 DG HSM | Art was the first SIGMA lens with a large aspherical lens element with a diameter of 80mm. Building on the expertise we gained from this success, we have also equipped this lens with a large precision-moulded aspherical front element with ?80mm. This technology made a 14mm F1.8 possible - the first of its kind.

Minimised distortion

As the front lens, the large precision-blank-pressed aspherical lens with ?80mm effectively minimises distortion. This lens with excellent edge illumination impresses with exceptional image quality from the centre of the image to the edge.

Unique bokeh

Even with its 14mm focal length, this ultra-wide-angle lens delivers a very shallow depth of field thanks to its F1.8 lens speed, so that the subject stands out clearly from the great background bokeh. Only a lens with a large aperture can create this unique expression.

Fast and reliable autofocus photography

The large Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) provides ample torque to the focussing group for superior speed, ensuring exceptionally consistent performance even at low speeds. Together with the optimised AF algorithm, these functions ensure fast autofocus photography.

The seventh 35mm full-frame fixed focal length lens in the Art product line

The SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art, introduced in 2012, was the first lens in the Art product line. Since then, we have developed a variety of lenses for this product line and the SIGMA 14mm F1.8 DG HSM | Art is now the seventh fixed focal length lens that is compatible with the 35mm full-frame format. The now even more powerful Art product line sets a new standard for fixed focal length lenses in the age of high-resolution cameras.

The mount is dust and splash-proof

As the mount of a lens is particularly susceptible to dust and other foreign bodies, this lens is fitted with a rubber seal to prevent the ingress of dirt. The front lens element also has a water and oil-repellent coating, so that the lens can also be used in the rain, near water or in other difficult conditions.

Includes Nikon's electromagnetic aperture mechanism

In the Nikon version, the lens has the electromagnetic aperture mechanism and is therefore able to process the signals from the camera body. This feature ensures precise aperture control and consistent performance with automatic exposure (AE) in continuous shooting mode.

Note: Functionality may be limited with some camera bodies.

Other impressive features

  • Fast AF with manual override (note: the operation of the manual override function may differ depending on the connection)
  • Compatible with the connector converter MC-11
  • SIGMA USB-DOCK available: Enables customisation and flexible adaptations
  • Connection change service possible: Enables use on a different camera
  • Round aperture
  • Design that minimises reflections and ghosting
  • High-precision and robust brass bayonet
  • Final control with SIGMA's own MTF measuring system ?A1?
  • Made in Japan: Outstanding craftsmanship
  • The year of release is engraved on the lens barrel
