XD motors for fast, precise and consistent AF

Two XD linear motors ensure fast, precise autofocus and reliable tracking. The SEL600F40GM gets the best out of modern cameras: even subjects in motion, e.g. in sports or animal photography, remain in focus. The specially developed control algorithm enables the positioning of a large focus group with minimal delay and vibration.

New XA element for outstanding resolution and bokeh

The optical design fulfils the requirements of G Master and consists of 3 fluorite elements to avoid aberrations that can occur with telephoto lenses. A large XA element prevents onion rings in the bokeh. The individually calibrated lenses ensure a perfect balance between resolution and bokeh. Optional 1.4x and 2x high-performance teleconverters with XA elements are available.

.

Exceptional mobility: the lightest of its kind

With a weight of just 3040 grams (including tripod mount), the lens is perfect for compact, lightweight E-mount cameras and offers easy handling. Smooth, precise panning shots are possible hand-held and with a monopod.

Reliability and durability for difficult conditions

The dust- and splash-proof design ensures the necessary reliability in challenging outdoor conditions. The fluorine coating on the front lens element repels water, oil and other contaminants. A magnesium alloy is used on the outer lens cylinder, the tripod device and critical areas in the cylinder to increase resilience.

Powerful functions for professional requirements

If FULL TIME DMF is activated, manual focus is used automatically when the focus ring is used, even in AF-C mode. MODE 2 of the optical SteadyShot image stabilisation enables panning shots. MODE 3 is suitable for dynamic sports or nature shots and makes it easier to capture the subject thanks to the more stable viewfinder image.

600 mm F4 G Master super telephoto lens

Fast autofocus plus outstanding G Master resolution and wonderful bokeh in a lightweight, well-balanced, mobile lens. Sony's original XA lens and linear XD motor technology contribute to superior optical and mechanical performance, enabling dynamic, mesmerising image capture even at long distances. Ideal for sports, news and nature photography.

XD motors for fast, precise and consistent AF

Two XD (Extreme Dynamic) linear motors ensure fast, precise autofocus and reliable tracking. They get the best out of modern cameras: even subjects in motion, e.g. in sports or animal photography, remain in focus. A new control algorithm contributes to the fast, smooth positioning of a large focus group with minimal delay and vibration.

Large XA element improves image quality

The optical G Master precision design ensures extremely high contrast right up to the edges of the image. The newly developed large XA element (extremely aspherical) and three fluorite elements prevent aberrations that can occur with telephoto lenses. This achieves an impressive resolution and level of detail across the entire image area.

Beautiful G Master bokeh

In addition to the new XA element with large aperture and extremely high surface precision, the individually calibrated lenses control the spherical aberration and thus ensure a perfect balance between resolution and the beautiful bokeh familiar from G Master. A circular diaphragm with 11 blades further embellishes the soft bokeh.

Extra-long reach with 1.4x/2.0x teleconverters2

High-performance 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters are optionally available. The 2.0x teleconverter extends the focal length of the lens to 1200 mm (1800 mm on an APS-C body) with maximum aperture F8, while maintaining the outstanding optical quality as well as the speed and precision of the autofocus.

Excellent clarity due to fewer reflections

Sony's original nano-coating, flocking of key internal surfaces and other design refinements minimise internal reflections, so there are hardly any ghosting and light effects that could reduce image clarity. The image is razor sharp, even in difficult lighting conditions. (1. nano-coating/2. glass/3. transmitted light)

Low weight and optimum weight distribution for easy shooting

The SEL400F28GM technology provided the blueprint for the low weight of just 3040 grams and optimum weight distribution. The outstanding optical performance can therefore be fully utilised even when shooting hand-held or with a monopod. In the compact and lightweight E-mount housing, the centre of gravity is ideally positioned for precise, blur-free panning shots.

Protected against dust and splash water

The dust- and splash-proof design ensures the necessary reliability in challenging outdoor conditions

Cylinder components made from sturdy magnesium alloy

The magnesium alloy on the outside of the lens barrel, the tripod mount and the most important internal components offers two advantages when shooting in extreme environments and situations: it is robust and lightweight.

Stable, robust mounting design

Additional mounting screws have been added to the bracket and further optimisations have been made to ensure maximum stability and reliability for professional use.

Fluorine coating on the front element

The front lens element has a fluorine coating that protects against water, oil and other contaminants and also makes it easier to wipe off if dirt or fingerprints do get stuck to the surface.

Lightweight lens hood made from carbon fibre

The flocked interior of this lightweight, robust carbon fibre lens hood helps to prevent unwanted light from entering the lens, which could impair image quality.

Optical SteadyShot with 3 modes

Optical image stabilisation facilitates hand-held shooting of sharp images with super telephoto focal lengths. MODE 2 enables panning shots. MODE 3 is suitable for dynamic sports or nature shots and makes it easier to capture the subject thanks to the more stable viewfinder image. 5-axis image stabilisation is available with compatible housings from the ? series housings.

Full-time DMF

When the FULL TIME DMF switch is set to ON, manual focusing is automatically activated by turning the focus ring, even when shooting in AF-C mode. This function can be used to correct the focus, for example if the autofocus is aimed at the wrong subject. The focus can also be precisely adjusted after the original autofocus setting if the AF function of the shutter release button (press halfway down) has been deactivated.

Case in hard shell design

The specially designed hard case protects the lens from bumps and shocks during transport.

Insertion filter slot

The filter slot fits 40.5 mm standard ND filters, other filter types and the VF-DCPL1 circular polarisation filter. The VF-DCPL1 circular polarisation filter can be rotated for the desired polarisation when inserted into the lens.

Stable, versatile tripod device

The tripod device of the lens is equipped with ball bearings. This ensures stability and enables easy rotation at the same time. There are also 90° click stops that can be switched on or off depending on preference: ON enables secure, fast 90° positioning, OFF means less resistance and better rotatability.
