Minimal focus shift

The ZEISS T* ZM bayonet lenses are designed to minimise the usual shift of the focal plane when the lens is stopped down - an important and valuable innovation for rangefinder photography. This provides the user with greater accuracy when setting the distance via the rangefinder. And the precise aperture with ten blades and click stops in 1/3 increments ensures exact exposure.

Ideal aperture properties

Photographers want to guide the viewer through the image. A minimal focal plane is often used as a design element. This deliberately keeps the background out of focus and draws the viewer's attention to the actual subject. The ZM lenses have apertures with ten blades that form an almost circular aperture. This creates a particularly harmonious effect in the out-of-focus areas of the image (bokeh).
